From Balfour to the Nakba. Week of Action
‘The violation of Palestinian rights: a necessary condition for the creation of a ‘Jewish state’ in Palestine”
Salma Karmi-Ayyoub, barrister and legal consultant for the Palestinian human rights organisation Al Haq
Salma will explain Israel’s establishment and the policies it has had to enact to maintain itself as a so-called Jewish state has necessarily resulted in the denial of Palestinian human rights. Israel as a ‘Jewish state’ is incompatible with Palestinian rights. Salma will also provide an overview of the idea of a Jewish ‘national home’ in Palestine, which evolved into a Jewish state, the Nakba (expulsion of Palestinians) and Israel’s policies today which constitute a continuing Nakba’
