Richmond and Kingston PSC Present:

A Christian in Palestine: Life under Occupation

Wednesday 24th July – All Saints Church, 63 East Sheen Avenue, SW14 8AX – 7.30pm

A talk by Professor Mazin Qumsiyeh, a Palestinian Christian, about modern life in the holy land under the rule of Israel’s military occupation.

Professor Mazin Qumsiyeh comes from the village of Beit Sahour, near Bethlehem,
celebrated as the site of the Shepherds’ Field where angels announced the birth of Jesus to shepherds watching their sheep by night.

The village, whose 15,000 population is 80% Christian, is under enormous and
increasing pressure from huge Israeli settlements which take up 87% of the
village’s land and have been built in contravention of international law.

Professor Qumsiyeh spent 29 years in the US, ending up as professor of genetics at
Yale University, then returned to Beit Sahour to teach and do research at Bethlehem
and Birzeit Universities.

He is a leading proponent of non-violent resistance to the occupation, president of the Palestinian Centre for Rapprochment, and the author of numerous books including “Popular Resistance in Palestine: a History of Hope and Empowerment” and “Sharing the Land of Canaan.”
