Bethlehem Now: Nine Alternative Lessons and Carols for Palestine

Event Details Day: 26/11/2008 to 26/11/2008

Jews for Boycotting Israeli Goods & Open Bethlehem present:

Bethlehem Now: Nine Alternative Lessons and Carols for Palestine

for soloists & audience

Special guests include: Bruce Kent, Vice president, Pax Christi

St James’s church, Piccadilly, Wed. 26th November, 7.30pm.

Traditional carols with untraditional lyrics, interspersed with poetry and prose readings, to highlight the current reality in the Holy Land.

Join us for a festival of carols with a difference this Christmas and help the Palestinian people of Bethlehem. The “Little Town” desperately needs its share of peace and goodwill. Its economy is destroyed and the population confined behind a 10-metre high concrete wall, built by the Israeli government in contravention of international law.

‘Once in royal David's city
Stood a big apartheid wall;
People entering and leaving
Had to pass a checkpoint hall.
Bethlehem was strangulated,
And her children segregated.

Though this city is a symbol
To the world of peace and love,
Concrete walls have closed around her,
Settlements expand above.
And apartheid Israel stands
All around on stolen lands.’
